Eczema Today
Whether you have
been experiencing dry skin, inflammation or rashes, you may have some
form of eczema. This is a term that has been designated to many
different types of skin inflammation known as dermatitis. While there
are several different kinds to become familiar with, atopic dermatitis
is by far the most common form.
What you need to
understand is that you are not alone if you are suffering from eczema.
It can affect people of all ages despite the fact that it is most
commonly found in infants. The good news is in half of the infants who
are affected, they will be completely healed by the age of three. The
downside is the other half of those cases people have recurring
conditions and symptoms throughout their life.
It is common for
people who are affected by this skin condition to have some form of
family history. Whether it is this in particular or some kind of
allergic conditions like asthma or hay fever, many times it points back
to your family. This is why it is imperative you know and understand
your family history.
As mentioned, you
are not alone if you have symptoms of this skin condition. Around 20%
of children and 1% to 2% of adults supposedly have eczema. It is
certainly not uncommon to find someone you know that may have it or
have suffered from it at some point in time.
So what causes the
nagging skin condition? The troubling answer to this question is
doctors do not really know what the exact cause is. However, it is
believed that an abnormal function of the immune system plays a part.
Because there are
different forms of eczema, some can be triggered by substances that
come in contact with your skin such as soaps, clothing and detergents.
Anything that could potentially cause allergic reactions can factor
into the cause as well. In addition, you may find that changes in the
temperature and humidity can lead to the skin condition.
It is important you
understand all of the symptoms that arise such as dry skin that is red
and itches. While the overall appearance will vary from person to
person, it does not hurt to get any unusual skin patterns checked out.
The sooner you identify the problem, the quicker you can begin to treat
it. After all, you do not deserve to be suffering from the constant
itching and scratching throughout your typical day.
